Jon Matthias Rhoads
In August 2016, Matthias rocketed into a career in Philippine showbiz as he was featured as a judge on a weekly survivor-meets-top-model program The Fiercest of Them All, an independent production bought by GMA Network. It was on the taping of that series that a scout from the network discovered Matthias' acting talent and brought him in for workshops and castings, hastily landing a role as businessman Gordon Smith on primetime hit Meant To Be.
The next step wasn't easy, but after months of castings and proving his worth as an actor for a large role, he became Trevor Jones, an archaeologist and major role on Marian Rivera's primetime show comeback Superma'am. Perhaps it was from the help of his similarly timed vital role in Jolibee's viral short film Vow, where he played the antagonist, that may have given him a little push towards the front row seats per se.
It was then that he landed a spot in GMA's acting roster "The Artist Center," a blessing that would present more acting roles for the next two years. A meet-cute comedy about a "balikbayan" (motherland-returning) Filipino-American who falls in love with his maid (Ella Cruz) on Karelasyon's Maid It. Then a darker and dramatic RomCom meet-cute where an injured and disheartened athlete falls in love with his OFW therapist (Lovely Abella) in Tadhana's Love Rehab. Both stories end in marriage, respectively.
After those two shorts, his next big primetime role was on the thriller/drama afternoon prime hit Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko as Daniel Lindburg, yet another balikbayan role searching for his long last father. This is where Matthias really got to explore his acting depths as his character falls in love with a trans woman, played by Thea Tolentino, who eventually breaks apart their family, Daniels heart with their lies, then attempts to kidnap, torture, and kill Daniel to no success.
Matthias then had his chance to get in touch with his nerdy side in his first role in an international movie as teacher Miguel in iFlix's Mystified, who falls in love with protagonist Adela (Iza Calcado). These are among the most poignant roles, as he has also other roles and features mentioned on his IMDB.
He currently produces, writes, records, hosts and edits a variety of videos for Asian Food Network, under the Discovery Network umbrella. This is his next step on his lifelong goal of becoming a world renowned traveller and food host, informing millions (or billions) of viewers about the wonders of the world and its vast taste and beauty.
